MONEYPIT SUMMER 2005 - SESSION 2:
MELLOTRON M400 #500
"On Golden 'Tron"

By now you've seen this picture about a million times.

(2) Mellotron M400 - waiting for restoration

Bernie's machine (#500) is on the right.  It's typical of a Mellotron M400...over 30 years old, original paint, rough around the edges.  As with M400 #310, fixing the machine's physical appearance should just be a matter of stripping, sanding, and painting, right?  Well, not exactly, as Bernie wanted to see his M400 stained.  He also asked that it be painted like Jerry's M400, which has a bit of a Chamberlin solid black motif on the cheek blocks, control panel, and front of the lid.

What was under the white paint of M400 #500?  Was it good wood, or was it the chip board that unfortunately makes up so many M400 cabinets?  If chip board, it'd wind up being spruced up a bit but white with little black feets like so many others.  But if there was good quality wood under there, it'd be a different story.

The unveiling awaits in the basement of the Mellotron Ranch!
